Bon Secours Richmond recently announced plans for the Westhampton School property at 5800 Patterson Avenue. The property will be used by Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing and the St. Mary's School of Medical Imaging. The building will be renovated and all attempts will be made to keep as much of the original structure as possible.
The Westhampton School is a historic building that was built in 1917 and served as an elementary school and a high school. Annexed by the City of Richmond in 1942, the Westhampton School became a part of the city of Richmond school system. From 1990 to 2009, the facility was home to Richmond Community High School. The property has been vacant since 2009.
Bon Secours Virginia Health System CEO, Peter J. Bernard estimates the completion will take up to 36 months. He commented that, "our intent is to continue to engage the community as we move forward with planning and construction. We consider the property an extension of the St. Mary's Hospital campus and the community a part of our Bon Secours family. We want them engaged."
