student Mission trip

Since 2000 the Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing has offered an annual mission trip for our nursing students to recognize our individual and collective "Call to Serve."

2012 Student Mission Application

Students are invited to apply and then are interviewed and selected for the team. Once selected, the students are required to complete our Transcultural Nursing Class or the Global Outreach Mission Trip course prior to the trip.

Through this immersion experience the BSMCON student nurses, alumni and faculty members are able to gain a deep understanding of healthcare needs in international vulnerable populations, with the expectation that this understanding may be applied within vulnerable populations in the United States.

The goal of the mission trip is for students to immerse themselves in another culture and provide nursing care to those in need. By working in the field without the convenience of modern technology, students are challenged to assess and address the needs of our patients without the benefit of lab work, diagnostic imaging, and other technological tools. Students make a commitment to physically touch and comfort every person who comes to see them, and minister to their individual needs.
