admission requirements

Traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree
for students seeking to become a Registered Nurse.

Before you apply for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, please read the following requirements for acceptance.

A minimum college GPA of 2.5 is required. The GPA will be calculated from all college courses taken, not only those that pertain to our program.

Applicants who do not have a bachelor's degree or will not complete a bachelor's degree prior to entry, the following general education courses are required. The program consists of 56 general education credits and 32 credits must be completed by the application deadline (required courses appear in red).

These courses include:

  • English I and II (6 credits)
  • Microbiology (3-4 credits) or Biology I and II (6-8 credits)
  • Developmental Psychology (3 credits)
  • Introduction to Psychology (3 credits)

In addition to the above required courses (15-20 credits), students must complete additional coursework to equal 32 credits from the courses listed below prior to entry.  This can include courses already completed that fit into a cluster (Medical Terminology, History, Religion, Public Speaking, Literature, etc.).

  • Anatomy & Physiology I (3-4 credits)
  • Anatomy & Physiology II (3-4 credits)
  • Statistics (3 credits)
  • Microbiology (3-4 credits) if not already completed 
  • 3 or more credits from Cluster One (courses can include SOC 200, HIS 121, REL 231, etc.)
  • 6 or more credits from Cluster Two (courses can include PHI 220, ENG 241, ART 100, etc.)
  • 3 or more credits from Cluster Four (courses can include CST 110, ITE 115, etc.)

Applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree prior to entry from an accredited college or university in another discipline must complete:

  • Microbiology (3-4 credits) or Biology I and II (6-8 credits)
  • Developmental Psychology (3 credits)
  • Anatomy & Physiology I (3-4 credits)
  • Anatomy & Physiology II (3-4 credits)

  • Microbiology (3-4 credits) if not already completed

Fall 2017 Admission - Deadline: March 1, 2017

Spring 2018 Admission – Deadline: August 15, 2017

The steps below must be completed prior to the deadline:

RN to BSN Requirements: For the RN to BSN degree completion program

  • The minimum cumulative grade point average for admission is 2.0 on a 4.0 scale for the required general education coursework and a grade of “C” or better in each of these courses.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university; either diploma or associate’s degree. Provision of official transcripts from all schools/colleges/universities attended.
  • Valid unrestricted license to practice registered nursing in the United States.
  • Successful completion of all but fifteen (15) or fewer credit hours of the general education courses (56 total credits) required for the BSN.

Readmission Requirements 

Bon Secours Admission and Progression Committee reviews all completed applications for readmission to the College.  A completed application consists of the following materials, which must be received by the Office of Admissions by stated deadlines. 

Re-admitted students will be required to update clinical compliance requirements (policy NUR 1.03) and may be subject to a criminal background check and/or drug screen.
